Your Weekend Escape to Austin, TX

For our next vacation, we’re all planning for an exotic and lavish escape overseas but have you thought of visiting and spending time within the domestic borders? Not only will it save you some cash but you’d be surprised how some U.S. cities are full of culture, nightlife, fabulous food and fun.  Today’s we’re sharing with you the perfect weekend escape to the enchanting city of Austin, a magical region smack int he middle of the Lone Star state.  Where it feels like an endless summer, you’ll find the Austinians feasting on smokehouse BBQ drenched in habanero sauce, cooling off in the watering holes, or jamming to the variety of live music that the city has to offer.  Here are six things you MUST do in this fabulous city:

1) Hamilton Pool Preserve, 24300 Hamilton Pool Road, Dripping Springs ($15)
Dripping Springs is arguably one of the finer watering holes to put on your list.  This serene, lifeguard-off-duty spot is about 25-miles from Austin and a natural preserve.

2) Black’s Barbeque, 215 North Main Street, Lockhart
The best BBQ in Texas hands down!  Texan’s all agree that Lockhart is THE destination and affectionately known as the “BBQ Capital of Texas.”

3) Jester King Brewery, 13005 Fitzhugh Road, Austin
When a regular six-pack from the grocery store doesn’t cut it, your best bet is to take a quick roll to Jester King.  Jester King is an authentic farmhouse brewery committed to making wild ales and spontaneously fermented beers.  They provide tasting tours and are within the city limits.  Cheers to that!

4) Barton Springs Pool, 2201 Barton Springs Rd., Austin
One of the crown jewels of Austin, this natural pool is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees–ideal for year-round swimming.  The pool connects to a river where you can kayak and row towards the city.
5) ACL Live at the Moody Center, 310 Willie Nelson Blvd., Austin
The city of Austin and live music go completely hand-in-hand.  There are numerous locations that are great to see a band but the number one location voted ‘best’ by local Yelp reviewers is the ACL Live at Moody Center.

6) Downtown Four Seasons Hotel Spa, 98 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin
It’s the end of your vacation with one day left to spare.  If your trip is anything like mine, this Four Seasons Spa, located in downtown Austin was GOLDEN.  Unless you’re a guest, you’ll have to pay $30 to use the spa.  Not just any spa.  This spa has a dedicated relaxation lounge, eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, an extensive menu of treatments, short walk to the outdoor pool with excellent service, and magnificent views and service.  So worth it.
