A’QUA Swim is a custom swimwear launched in 2013. Created by Adrienne Fuqua, the name A’QUA derives from her first and last name. The A’QUA brand intends to bring a retro, yet modern take on swimwear to the mass market. Adrienne believes that a woman should feel confident when she is in an A’QUA Kini. A’QUA swimwear celebrates women, their beauty, curves, and daring personality.
What sets A’QUA apart from other swimwear lines is that it doesn’t necessarily follow the latest trends. Instead, Adrienne designs a lot of classic pieces that won’t “go out of style” and can be worn again. Also, a large part of her sales are custom orders. Girls love knowing they can co-design a special one-of-a-kind bikini with her that no one else has!
A’QUA Swim got started one day as Adrienne was brainstorming with her friend and photographer, Alan Mura, on what direction she should go with her HUSH LA Boutique. Out of nowhere, she had the idea to make swimwear! With no background in swimwear or design, she dove in head first to the design process and was determined to figure it out. Once she got the idea in her mind, she tirelessly visualized and worked on it until it came into fruition. Since then the A’QUA journey began and she created her own swimwear patterns and samples from scratch on her living room floor.
Adrienne gets inspiration for her bikinis by first picking out a color story, fabric prints and then she choose a design based off of those. She then decides which cut or style would look best for each. Adrienne always creates pieces that she would wear herself while keeping in mind what her clientele wants and what would flatter their best assets.
A’QUA recently debuted it’s Spring 2015 Collection at LA Style Fashion Week which was an amazing experience! A’QUA is currently in the process of manufacturing the line so A’QUA can be available both online and in stores early next year. It is a very exciting time!
