The top Google searches for romantic getaways are likely to return results of Napa Valley, Santa Barbra or Palm Springs. The tranquility of these destinations provides the opportunity to spend intimate downtime in each others company while capitalizing on worlds built around couple activities. Although rich in relaxation, these destinations hale in comparison to the rejuvenating weekend my boyfriend and I recently experienced. In a city traditionally known for bachelor parties and midlife crises, we set out on a journey to find out if Sin City could provide some spark to our relationship and if what happens in Vegas would be shared.
Arriving in Las Vegas it is easy to be mesmerized by the bright lights, eclectic crowds and unique architecture all planted into the middle of the desert. With so many amazing properties packed into one small city, the hotel choice can be a bit overwhelming. For us, we wanted a spacious room, first class dining and to fall deep into the thrilling Vegas culture.
After a long drive through the desert, we were eager to arrive to our hotel. Walking into the Venetian you might think you just teleported to the streets of Rome. With music from accordions filling the air it is hard to overlook the 25-foot marble pillars imported from Italy constructed down the hallway leading into the casino. Through the roars of excitement and cries of bad hands we made our way to our room.
Situated high above the strip, the 2-story Bella suite is where we found home for the weekend. With enough space to hold a soccer game in and amenities fit for a king, we were more than taken back upon walking in. Doubling the size of the average Las Vegas hotel suite, the standard Venetian suite has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Standard Hotel Suite.”
After getting situated we were tasked with the challenge of selecting from over 17 restaurants in the hotel alone. Tao Asian Bistro was our first destination. Overflowing with drink specials we began working our way through a dinner menu filled with options from around the world. Duck that had a 48 hour prep time, lobster tail from Maine or fresh sushi were the second place finishers for me. Taking the crown was the sea bass. Although cliché, overused and often misrepresentative, the term melt in your mouth is the only way I can describe the taste. You can travel anywhere looking for the best seafood and I am confident you will return to Tao Asian Bistro and order the sea bass and crown it king. From weary travelers morphed into night owls, this restaurant provided the exact jolt we needed to conquer our first Vegas night on the town.
Waking up in our mansion of a room, I was pleased to remember my evening preparation of a Gatorade and bottle of Advil. To fight the ramifications of last night’s fun, we took to the Canyon Ranch SpaClub to see what it had to offer. With over 80 massage rooms, this spa is one of a kind. Massive, yet classy this is the only place I would dream of spending my morning. Ranges of thermal rooms, a salon, a grill, a workout center and over 150 offered services offered, no spa I have had the pleasure attending holds a candle to Canyon Ranch. A morning with my boyfriend that will make the list of memories down the road.
Adding to the hotels Italian ambiance is the 280,000-gallon canal running throughout the entire hotel. The best part of it, it is more than just a site to see, as real gondolas captained by singing gondoliers will take you on a journey throughout the Venetian canal. After a day of enjoying the Vegas attractions, we took to the canals on a romantic cruise under bridges and balconies, through the streetscape of the bustling Italian façade, a perfect end to our day and an absolute recommendation with your significant other.
While Tao Asian Bistro set the dinner standard high, we headed to Morels French Steakhouse to cap off the day. The perfectly grilled steaks were washed down with an abundance of wine as we began the Morels Wine Passport Program. Although we only received a few of the required 24 stamps for a complimentary bottle, it is a little extra motivation to return and continue our samples from around the world.
I would not trade our weekend getaway for any other. An exciting and cultural trip filled with a platter of Vegas thrills and a side of romance. Now forget everything I wrote about because they say it stays in Vegas and we absolutely want to be invited back to the Venetian.
